Charges we defend

Texas criminal defense — misdemeanor to first-degree felony

Whatever you've been charged with, the first job is the same: read the State's evidence honestly, find what's weak in it, and protect your record. Here's where we spend most of our time.

DWI & DUI Defense

First offense, second offense or felony DWI. We challenge the reason for the stop, the breath and blood evidence, and the field sobriety testing — John has specialized training in field sobriety testing and uses it to test the State's proof.

Discuss your DWI charge

Felony Criminal Defense

State jail felonies through first-degree charges, where a sentence can reach life in prison and the fine can reach $10,000 or more. We build these files for trial from day one, whether or not they end up in front of a jury.

Discuss your felony charge

Murder & Serious Violent Crimes

Murder, homicide and other violent charges — the cases where the stakes are life, and where the State's case has to be pulled apart piece by piece. Two lawyers work the file, not one.

Drug Charges & Possession

Possession, paraphernalia, delivery and trafficking. Most drug cases start with a traffic stop and a search — if the officer didn't have probable cause, what they found can be ruled inadmissible, and the charge often goes with it.

Discuss your drug charge

Assault & Family Violence

Assault, aggravated assault and family violence allegations, including cases built on one person's word. A family violence finding follows you into gun rights, jobs and custody — it is worth fighting properly.

Discuss your assault case

Theft, Burglary & Robbery

Shoplifting and misdemeanor theft through burglary of a habitation and aggravated robbery. Theft convictions are read as crimes of dishonesty for the rest of your working life, so keeping it off the record matters.

Discuss your theft charge

Weapons & Gun Charges

Unlawful carry, prohibited places, and possession of a firearm by a person with a prior conviction. Weapons cases can turn a bad night into a felony record that blocks military service and licensing — we treat them that seriously.

Discuss your weapons charge

Juvenile Defense

If your child has been detained or charged, the goal is their future. Alongside defending the case, our team works to keep the charge off your child's record. Parents can call any hour — we'll tell you what happens next.

Get help for your child

Probation Violations & Motions to Revoke

A missed test, a missed payment or a new arrest can put you in front of the judge who sentenced you. We move fast on motions to revoke and adjudicate, and argue for a fix that doesn't cost you your freedom.

Discuss your MTR

Expunctions & Orders of Nondisclosure

An old arrest still shows up in background checks. Depending on how your case ended, you may be eligible for an expunction or an order of nondisclosure. We'll check your eligibility honestly before you spend anything.

White Collar Crimes & Fraud

Credit card abuse, forgery, identity theft and fraud allegations — document-heavy cases that are often investigated for months before anyone is arrested. If you know you're being looked at, call before you're charged.

Discuss your fraud case

Not sure what you're charged with?

Bring the paperwork you were given — the charge on it isn't always what it looks like. We'll read it with you, explain the range of punishment in plain English, and tell you what your realistic options are.

Ask us your question

Experienced. Compassionate. Relentless.

Two lawyers, one team, on your case

The Kahn Law Firm is family-run. Jennifer and John built it while raising five children, and the way they run it hasn't changed since 2003.

A husband-and-wife trial team

Hire the firm and both attorneys work your case — more than 20 years practicing together, 45 years of combined experience.

Every case built for trial

We prepare every matter as though it may ultimately be decided in a courtroom. That's what gives a plea negotiation weight.

Honest, realistic advice

We don't overpromise and we don't see clients as case numbers. You'll get a straight answer about your charge, even when it isn't the one you wanted.

What defense costs — before you commit

Nobody plans for a criminal charge, and legal fees are the first thing people worry about. We keep it simple.

  • Flat fee pricing. You get the number for your case, not an hourly meter that grows.
  • 0% interest payment plans. Spread the fee out — the total doesn't go up because you use a plan.
  • The consultation is free. You hear the fee and the options before you decide anything.

How it works

Three steps, starting tonight if you need it

1

Call or send the form

Our phones are answered 24/7, including nights and weekends. It's free, confidential, and there's no obligation.

2

Talk to Jennifer or John

By phone, by video or at our Pearland office. You'll get a straight read on the charge, the likely range of punishment, and a flat fee with payment plan options.

3

We take it from there

Bond, court settings, the prosecutor, the evidence — we handle it and keep you informed, and we prepare the case as though a jury will decide it.

Common questions

Straight answers before you call

We offer flat fee pricing, and you get the number before you hire us — no hourly meter. We also offer 0% interest payment plans, so the fee can be spread out. You'll hear the exact figure and the payment options during your free consultation, before you commit to anything.

Yes. The first consultation is free, confidential and carries no obligation, and you can do it by phone, by video or in person at our Pearland office. If your matter is something we don't handle, we'll refer you to a lawyer who does.

Use your right to remain silent and call a defense lawyer before you talk to police. An arrest is not a conviction; it is simply the beginning of your fight for justice. The sooner we get involved, the sooner we can start gathering evidence, questioning the legality of the stop or search, and dealing with bond and court settings for you. Our phones are answered 24 hours a day, including nights and weekends.

Texas misdemeanors run from Class C (a fine up to $500 and no jail time) to Class A (a fine up to $4,000 and up to a year in jail). Felonies start with a state jail felony (a fine up to $10,000 and up to two years in state prison) and get harsher through third, second and first degree, where a sentence can reach life in prison. Capital felonies carry life without parole or the death penalty. Either way, a conviction leaves a permanent record that follows you into jobs, housing and licensing.

We can't promise a specific outcome, and we won't. What we do is take every step available to get charges dropped or dismissed — reviewing the State's evidence for weaknesses, challenging whether the officer had probable cause for the stop or the search, and negotiating with the prosecutor where that serves you better than trial. If evidence was obtained illegally it can be ruled inadmissible, and charges often fall apart with it.

Our office is in Pearland and we defend clients in Brazoria, Harris, Galveston and Fort Bend Counties, plus surrounding communities in the Greater Houston area. We appear in these courthouses regularly and know how the local courts and prosecutors work.

Sometimes, yes. Depending on how your case ends, you may be eligible for an expunction or an order of nondisclosure, which limits who can see the charge. For juvenile cases, we also work to keep the charge off your child's record. Bring the paperwork you have to your free consultation and we'll tell you honestly what is and isn't possible.

Yes. Our phones are answered 24/7, including nights and weekends. Arrests don't wait for business hours, and neither do we.
